In 1892, Arthur J. Perkins was appointed as the first Lecturer in Viticulture at Roseworthy Agricultural College. Students in the Roseworthy Diploma in Agriculture studied subjects in both viticulture and oenology until in 1936 when the Diploma in Oenology was established. The first stand alone wine degree in Australia. Overtime the programs at Roseworthy developed into specific degrees in Wine Science, Viticulture and Wine Marketing. In 1990, Roseworthy Agricultural College and the University of Adelaide merged and the wine related programs moved to the Waite Campus.
